The Why feeling
Happy New Year!
What a wonderful time to refresh, recommit, and refocus on improving your busy life. It is a continuous process, and I welcome the opportunity to recommit myself as we kickstart 2025.
As we begin working on our new goals and resolutions, one important strategy to help you achieve your goal(s) is to understand your “Why.” However, let's look at it in a different way than what you are used to.
Knowing your Why can help you achieve your goal because your Why drives emotion, which helps drive action and consistency.
Sometimes the Why is easy to find, but other times it can be difficult.
Let’s learn how to find our Why and continue to use it in our daily routines.
Below is a visual exercise to help you find your Why. Take a journal and find a quiet place alone. Begin to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
Now answer this question, what do you want to achieve? Talk it out in your mind and use details. You can also use this time to journal, which helps the thought process.
After you have your goal in mind, imagine you have ACHIEVED this goal by your deadline. Spend some time meditating or journaling on the following questions:
You have achieved your goal, what does it look like? What do you see? What do YOU look like?
What are you feeling? Try to find as many words as possible to describe your feelings. Write them down.
Who is around you? Look around the environment in your vision and see who is there. What are they doing? Are they saying anything?
What are you feeling when visualizing your environment? Be specific and describe your feelings.
What does your day look like after you have achieved your goal? Walk through a day from waking up to bedtime after reaching your new goal. What do you like about it?
Wow, what an amazing feeling, right? Take these emotions and use them as your Why. Your Why is not always about awards, items, or people; but more about the feelings you experience when achieving your goals.
Take those feelings and visit them every day.
2025 here we come! Let’s go!
